This is me

I’m a Registered Nurse (RN) with ten years of work experience at Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS). I graduated from the Practical Nursing program at Mohawk College in 2011 and began my nursing career as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) on the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit of the Hamilton General Hospital (HGH) in 2012. My studies continued shortly after and I completed the RPN to BScN Bridging Program at McMaster University in 2015. My career as a Registered Nurse began on the Cardiac Surgery Unit of the HGH in 2016 which opened up many doors for me in the fields of Research and Health Informatics. Presently, I am in a contracted full-time position as a Clinical Informatics Specialist for the Health Information System (HIS) Project currently underway at HHS. My passion for research also led me to a recent opportunity as a part-time Nurse Research Collaborator for McMaster University with the SMArTVIEW randomized control trial that took place at the HGH. During my career, I have already learned that the nursing profession is filled with many great opportunities but in order to really make a change in healthcare, a leadership position is required. As a result, I decided to dive back in to the world of academia and to begin a Masters of Health Studies through Athabasca University in 2021. With the increased importance of the digital world today, the role of this portfolio is to introduce myself digitally as a Nursing Professional, and to establish a professional digital identity.

I review current workflows, and design new ones, which support clinical practice and patient safety.

As a Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS) at HHS, I am part of a project team involved in the implementation of our new Hospital Information System Odyssey. Clinical informatics staff such as myself support professional and clinical practices across the hospital by ensuring that appropriate practice standards, education, processes, systems and structures are applied to the future state.

As a Research Nurse Collaborator for the SMArTVIEW trial, I supported research nurses with an e-Health enabled service delivery intervention called SMArTVIEW. The SMArTVIEW intervention combined remote automated vital signs monitoring in hospital, followed by nurse hospital-to-home monitoring and virtual recovery support (up to 30 days post discharge), for reducing hospital readmission and emergency department visits following major cardiac and vascular surgery, compared to standard postoperative care.
